WTOC is reporting that an Estill Police Officer was shot in the face.   According to the report no additional information is available; however, the police department did confirm the shooting.

UPDATE (2:00 pm)

WSAV reports that the suspect, Malcolm Orr, is in custody. Officers say he was located in the Keegan area of Hampton County.

WTOC reports the incident results from the suspect snatching liquor from somebody, resulting in law enforcement being called. Reportedly, a chased ensued and then the officer was shot.

 

UPDATE: (12:15pm)

The Hampton Guardian is reporting the officer was unable to be transported by helicopter due to inclement weather, but was instead transported by ambulance to a local hospital.  No suspects have been named or apprehended in the shooting of the officer.

WSAV reports that Hampton County Sheriff’s Deputies are on the scene on Main Street to assist.

    Barely 12 hours into the “New Year” and a family is suffering an unimaginable tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with this officer, their family and co-workers.
