In a speech delivered in New York yesterday, President Trump reaffirmed his very strong support for the rank and file police officers that risk their lives every day to make their communities safer. There isn’t another politician out there today who empathizes more with our members than the President does – and nobody appreciates him more than the 332,000 members of the Fraternal Order of Police!
That being said, the President’s off the cuff comments on policing are sometimes taken all too literally by the media and professional police critics: the President knows, just as every cop out there knows, that our society does not, and should not, tolerate the mistreatment or prejudgment of any individual at any point in the criminal justice process. All are considered innocent until proven guilty and entitled to due process. By the way, due process rights are afforded to police officers too!
