The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety has announced that Sergeant Heather Swarthout passed away following a medical emergency.
Heather was admitted to the hospital earlier in the week for a medical head emergency and transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina and underwent surgery to remove a blood clot near the brain. Surgeons were unable to remove a number of smaller clots and she was placed on blood thinners. She died peacefully in her sleep Sunday.
A Message from North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Director regarding the passing of Sgt Heather Swarthout
“It’s with a very heavy heart and with great sadness that I have to let everyone know that Heather has gone to heaven and is with her grandfather that she dearly loved. She passed peacefully in her sleep.
Heather was truly a very special lady that touched everyone with her special huge smile. She has left us way too early as she was without question a shooting star for us that had so much untouched potential.
Please keep praying for her family as they are still struggling. We as a family will stand with Heather’s family and help them heal from Heather’s tragic death.
As the plans for a viewing/memorial service here and the service and burial service in VA are made in the coming days, I will ensure everyone is noticed.
On behalf of the family, they are very appreciative of the unbelievable outpouring of support and prayers from everyone.”
Jay Fernandez, Director of Public Safety
