SALUDA Co., S.C. (WSPA) – A SC sheriff’s deputy is dead after he crashed on his way to search for a suspect.

The Saluda County Sheriff’s Office says Cpl. Dale Hallman died early Friday morning.


The 30-year-old deputy was part of the department’s bloodhound tracking team and was headed to Edgefield County after a man ran from deputies following a police chase.

Hallman was in a single vehicle crash.

He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Deputies say the armed suspect ran from the vehicle with a child.

The child was released by the suspect and is safe.

The suspect is still on the run.

Sheriff John C. Perry says Hallman will be remembered as a devoted law enforcement officer with 5 years of service.

He was also a Lieutenant in the county fire service.

He was awarded the Medal of Valor for his outstanding service to Saluda Co.

Hallman leaves behind a wife, unborn child and two be stepsons, according to the sheriff.
