 I.  Legislative News and Activity

Executive Director Jim Pasco:

  • Spoke with numerous contacts at the U.S. Department of Justice regarding pattern and practice investigation issues;
  • Held a lengthy discussion with U.S. Secretary of Labor, R. Alexander Acosta, regarding LM-2 reporting issues;
  • Spoke with Spoke with Jennifer S. Korn, Special Assistant to the President, regarding pending issues.

Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson:

  • Represented the FOP at a law enforcement stakeholders meeting with staff from the Senate Committee on the Judiciary to discuss the agenda for the lame duck session and the 116th Congress;
  • Met with staff in the office of Senator Cory A. Booker (D-NJ) to discuss draft legislation and FOP legislative priorities.

Legislative Liaison Michael Martin

  • Represented the FOP at the White House for the signing of H.R. 6, the “Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act;”
  • Represented the FOP at the Department of Justice’s National Opioid Summit, where U.S. Attorney General Jefferson B. Sessions III and Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein addressed the audience.

Both chambers are in recess until after the midterm elections. Election Day is 6 November 2018.

B.  Support the H.R. 964/S. 424, the “Law Enforcement Officers’ Equity Act”

We have 51 co-sponsors on H.R 964.

We have 6 co-sponsors on S. 424.

C. Support H.R. 4846/ S. 2845, the “Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act”

We have 56 co-sponsors on H.R. 4846.

We have 7 co-sponsors on S. 2845.
