I.  Legislative News and Activity

Executive Director Jim Pasco:

  • Had a lengthy one-on-one phone conversation with Brooke L. Rollins, Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental and Technology Initiatives in the Office of American Innovation, to discuss criminal justice and immigration reform proposals;
  • Attended the Fall Meeting of the National Board of Trustees in Cleveland, Ohio;
  • Attended and spoke at the conference of the American Trucking Association about improving the relationship between law enforcement and the trucking industry.

Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson represented the FOP at the quarterly meeting of the Law Enforcement Working Group which was hosted by Steven H. Cook, Associate Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).  U.S. Attorney General Jefferson B. Sessions III visited the meeting briefly to address the organizations about the Department’s work.

Senior Legislative Liaison Richardson and Legislative Liaison Mike Martin met with Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles E. Grassley’s staff to discuss H.R. 5698/S. 2794, the “Protect and Serve Act.”

The FOP Legislative Office participated in a conference call with State,  Federal and relevant stakeholders regarding efforts to develop a Blue Alert program in Idaho.

 

II.  THIS WEEK IN CONGRESS

Both chambers are in recess until after the midterm elections. Election Day is next Tuesday, 6 November 2018. Don’t forget to vote!

We have 51 co-sponsors on H.R 964.

We have 6 co-sponsors on S. 424.

C. Support H.R. 4846/ S. 2845, the “Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act”

We have 56 co-sponsors on H.R. 4846.

We have 7 co-sponsors on S. 2845.
