I.      LEGISLATIVE NEWS AND ACTIVITY
Senior Legislative Liaison Richardson represented the FOP at a law enforcement stakeholder meeting with the majority staff of the House Subcommittee on Crime to discuss pending legislation.

Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson and Legislative Liaison Mike Martin met with members of the FOP’s Federal Officer’s Committee and Federal Officer?s Coalition to discuss legislation affecting our Federal officer members.

Senior Legislative Liaison Richardson participated in a conference call with the majority staff of the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding S. 419, the “Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Improvements Act,” which was marked-up and favorably reported by the Committee on the Judiciary later in the week.

Senior Legislative Liaison Richardson and Legislative Liaison Martin represented the FOP at a law enforcement stakeholder meeting with staff in the office of Representative Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD), the Minority Whip, to discuss pending legislation.

Legislative Liaison Martin met with staff in the House Committee on Education and the Workforce to discuss H.R. 949, the “Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act.”

Senior Legislative Liaison Richardson represented the FOP at a law enforcement stakeholder meeting with staff in the offices of Senators Roy D. Blunt (R-MO) and Christopher A. Coons (D-DE) , the co-chairs of the Senate Law Enforcement Caucus, to discuss pending legislation..

Senior Legislative Liaison Richardson  represented the FOP at a law enforcement stakeholder meeting with staff in the office Senator Charles E. Grassley (R-IA), Chairtman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, to discuss pending legislation.

Legislative Liaison Martin  represented the FOP at a law enforcement stakeholder meeting with staff in the office of Senator John Cornyn III (R-TX), the Majority Whip, to discuss pending legislation.

II.     THIS WEEK IN CONGRESS
The House and Senate were both in session this week.

Action in the House
The House considered and passed H.R. 1301, the “Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2017,” on a 371-48 vote.  The bill now goes to the Senate for further consideration.

Action in the Senate
The Senate considered and passed for House-passed resolutions rolling back rules and regulations put into place by the prior Administration.

We added 5 cosponsors to H.R. 1205, bringing our current total to 89.

B.  Support the H.R. 964/S. 424, the “Law Enforcement Officers’ Equity Act”
We have 2 cosponsors on H.R. 964.

There is 1 cosponsor on S. 424.
